New Twitter Default PictureWell, since people won’t take the initiative to make themselves look professional by uploading an image, Twitter has at least improved the old picture with this new slightly more professional one.

But really… I see all these businesses trying to get followers on Twitter, but their not using all of their resources… that’s just silly. Uploading your logo or another image that represents your brand really does help make you more memorable among all the millions of other people on Twitter. I mean people even have favorite Twitter friend avatars… get in on that…

It’s the simple things that make a difference…

Social Marketing

Twitter, Facebook, Technorati… social marketing is powerful. The ability for you to find consumers in your area and talk directly to them is a tool that any business owner, small or large, just can’t ignore.

Social media is a way for potential customers to find out who you are, what you provide, and how you can help them within a more laid-back environment. Before this kind of marketing came about businesses had to rely on their current customers talking to other people in order to get these kind of advertising results.

Twitter

Twitter, for instance, has had several applications developed for it, such as Twello and Nearby Tweets that allow you to both find people in your area, as well as track what people are talking about in your area. You can search based on specific keywords and even track what is being said about your business.

There are also applications that allow you to create coupons to distribute on Twitter, twtQpon, as well as those to allow you to track the analytics of your tweets, Twittertise.

All of these tools can help increase your tweeting productivity and grow your customer base, increasing your sales.

Search Engine Optimization

While it is important to stay in the social marketing scene and build your clientele in this way, you still need to have a website to direct them back to which will thoroughly and more professional sell your services and/or products.

Each of these social networks provide a space for you to include a website just for this reason, even they know the importance of having a website, and it’s certainly not their job to be your marketing coach.

Combination

The new direction that marketing is facing is a remarkable way for businesses to grow their clientele, however these different online venues must be used in conjunction with one another in order to produce the greatest desired result.

With social media rising to the center of the marketing and advertising corral, places like Twitter, Facebook and Digg are becoming more and more necessary for small to medium and even large businesses. These platforms allow customers to feel connected with a store’s sense of “service” and it sort of brings them down the “average Joe’s” level.

It doesn’t matter what you’re selling, what you’re promoting, or what you’re trying to accomplish; staying connected on places like Twitter seem to increase overall brand awareness and a friendly customer experience.

It’s a whole new way of Marketing!

As the world transforms from “old school” to “new school” in a sense, the old way of marketing is becoming outdated and old dogs have to learn new tricks. You’re no longer solely directing to a specific audience. You can’t do that on the internet. People can’t hear or see your ad at a specific time of day and you can’t limit your viewing to a certain region, the World Wide Web is just that, WORLD WIDE and people are online all the time, searching all the time!

Connecting with people on sites such as Facebook and Twitter will intrigue people to find out more about your company and what you have to offer. Having an actual conversation will make the customer feel more “taken care of” and like they’re getting their questions answered in a less stressful environment, and while not feeling like they’re just getting “the sales pitch”.

So, what do you need to do?

Join Facebook, Twitter, Digg and other social networking sites, and even create your own blog. Talk about your industry, your thoughts, write articles… just talk to your audience. They’re listening…

You can connect with Merchant Metrix on several social networks on the Web! We’re always here to help you and answer your questions!

With millions of users spending hours a day on social networks such as YouTube, Twitter, and MySpace it can allow for small and medium sized companies to get their name out in front of these loyal video subscribers and micro-bloggers.

Once your company has signed up for several of the many social networks it may take some work to help your “popularity” within the social network by either getting voted to the front page of Digg or getting thousands of friends on MySpace. Each social network has it’s own unique way of adding friends or following micro-bloggers, but the real reason we want them to subscribe, become friends, or follow your company is so they can visit your official site.

Linking back to your site allows for your friends or followers to simply visit your site from the social network and to get additional information about your company and your products. Building these links into your site are very important, so don’t forget to link to your site using a few important keywords for the link. With each post or video you create a link should be added back to your original site, so when a customer wants additional information they don’t have to go searching through the social network.

So, while social networks can possibly help your company by getting a few customers, it can’t be the only way to drive customers to your site. One of the best solutions is to have a proven search engine friendly shopping cart or an SEO friendly website that can help you bring your site to the top of the search engines. SEO friendly shopping carts and websites will help boost your rankings in Google and other search engines to get your business in front of your potential customers.
